“Old Timey” 2-Man Ranch Cutting + Open Cutting – May 19, 2017
May 19 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
OK, so here’s “good news” and not-so-good news. Not-so-good news first: As you may know, Hugh and Colleen Griffith are moving to Oklahoma (L).
We want to wish them well in their new ventures and say a huge mahalo for all they have done for the Oahu horse community, so we’re planning an awesome event for Friday night, May 19, at New Town & Country Stables in Waimanalo.
For those of you who went to the two-man sorting at their place last November, you won’t want to miss this!! We’re calling it an “Old Timey Two-Man Ranch Cutting.” It’s similar to a two-man sorting, but instead of a two-person team sorting cattle into two pens, it’s a two-person team in a ranch cutting event.
Rather than having four herd holders/turnback helpers, it will consist of a two-person team – one cutter and one helper. Here’s how it will work:
The first designated cutter will go into the herd to cut for 90 seconds. The helper can help get a cow out and turn back, etc. The cutter will be scored by the judges. At the end of the 90 seconds. The cutter and helper will change places and the second team member will have an opportunity to cut for 90 seconds and receive a score. Cutting rules will apply except that there will be no penalty for reining your horse or picking it up, etc. The scores will be combined for a team score. At the end of the night, the team with the highest score wins. Cost is $20/person/go. $20 office fee.
You can have as many go’s as you like – just can’t duplicate teams.
IN ADDITION, we’ll be holding an Open (jackpot) Ranch Cutting that night, too.
I’ll be posting rules and entry forms on Facebook and will also be emailing. Because we need to know how many cattle to order, it’s important to let me know by May 12 if you plan to enter. Team making and payment (cash only, please) will be at 6 p.m. Friday, May 19, but we do need those entry forms in by the 12th.
C’mon out and have fun with us before Hugh and Colleen head to the mainland. Mahalo to Bud & Katy for making this happen!!
